This series of images taken at Aldermaston Women’s Peace Camp has just been selected for a new exhibition in celebration of International Women’s Day.

Aldermaston Women meet every month setting up their tents outside the main gates of the UK’s Atomic Weapons Establishment. I visited last December on the 40th anniversary of Embrace the Base, where it turned into the coldest weekend of the year as temperatures dropped to minus seven degrees. Undeterred by freezing conditions (many of these women had experienced harsh winters at Greenham Common) and fueled by hot tea and field-kitchen food they continued their [almost] peaceful protest highlighting the futility of nuclear weapons with workshops, talks and song. Warning that “the creation and storage of Atomic Nuclear Weapons brings with it the threat of ultimate destruction.”

As part of this year’s International Women’s Day celebrations it was my huge honour to be part of the curation panel for WOMAN an exhibition of extraordinary photography by f22 Women Photographers at the AOP. The final roll call of women & non-binary photographers selected for inclusion lists some of the foremost photographers working in the industry today :

Self-Portrait is the latest group exhibition from f22 photographers, with images selected by guest curator Jaki Jo Hannan, founder of Equal Lens. The exhibition is part of a wider celebration of International Women’s Day and all images can be seen here until 31st March.

I am delighted to be exhibiting a portfolio of my Greenham Common photography at The Pie Factory Margate as part of POW Festival 2021

POW! is a charity celebrating and exploring issues around feminism, women and girls, and their annual festival is designed to coincide with International Women’s Day celebrations.

“Women behind the lens continue to be seriously unrepresented in the industry, and the gallery. However things are changing, as women’s photography groups are becoming highly proactive, attempting to readdress the balance.“

I am very pleased and honoured to be invited to participate in WOMEN PHOTOGRAPHERS NOW a panel talk at The Photographers' Gallery London where I will be speaking on behalf of f22aop Women Photographers. My fellow speakers are Hilary Wood founder of #209women and Del Barrett founder of HundredHeroines. These are both women I admire and whose initiatives I have been fortunate to have taken part in.


For this event we will discuss the work we do to help support and promote women photographers, the problems involved, and what we see next for women in photography.


The talk will take place on Thursday 12th March, to coincide with International Women's Day week.
Admission is free you just need to register for tickets.

NATALIE ADAMS volunteer RNLI crew member at Dungeness Lifeboat Station
I photographed Natalie at my pop-up studio at Dungeness last summer.
Her family have a long history with the RNLI and her father is the current
Coxwain at the station.  They are very modest about their invaluable
work as volunteer lifesavers.

"I am the only female crew member at present but I would 100% recommend
volunteering to other women. I have always been made to feel so welcome
and part of the team. We are serious when we need to be but also have
a good laugh, and being part of a team you never feel like you are out
there on your own, and there is also great satisfaction knowing you've
helped someone at the end of the day. You don't need any sea going experience
as all training is provided, just a desire to learn and to get stuck in." 
"Dungeness was famous for it's Lady Launchers in the past, so there
has always been a strong positive theme of female volunteers at the
station. One of our original Lady Launchers still volunteers as our
press officer, and we have other women on the team involved in station visits,
fundraising and youth education, and all give up their time to save
lives at sea."

Natalie also works full-time as Helm at Gravesend Lifeboat Station
on the river Thames. There are currently ten female crew and last year
they had their first all female shift.

"My proudest moment at the RNLI was my passing out ceremony as a Helm
at Gravesend."
